Mike Hotter, maintenance manager at Northland Cold Storage, located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, used to work in the meat industry where he had experience building conveyors. So, his comments come from a manager with experience in keeping production lines moving.
"These are fine conveyors," says Hotter about the Patz 24-inch-belt conveyors. "They are stable and well built."
"We have had no tracking problems and the pulley crowns are good," reports Hotter.
"It was an excellent installation job, too," he adds. The conveyors were installed by K & K Material Handling, Inc. of Green Bay.
The Patz Flat Slider-Bed Belt Conveyors move boxes weighing 40 to 60 pounds. They operate up to 10 hours per day, moving up to 60,000 pounds per day.
This Patz Belt Conveyor moves boxes of frozen food to a microwave oven for defrosting. The belt speed is varied, depending on the time in the microwave oven to produce the desired food temperature.
As boxes are discharged from the microwave oven, a second Patz Belt Conveyor moves the boxes to the operator for stacking on pallets. With this conveyor layout, the same operator loads the first conveyor and unloads the second conveyor.
